No to Euthanasia
I. Euthanasia should stay illegal because it could lead to involuntary euthanasia, it is not considered a financial problem, and the killing of infants is inhumane.
a. I am here today to convince you that Euthanasia should not be legal.
b. Euthanasia originally meant “good death,” but now it means a death free to any anxiety or pain, also known as “mercy killing” which is deliberately killing someone (What is Euthanasia?)
c. Even though euthanasia is illegal in the U.S, there are exceptions. Currently, Oregon allows euthanasia for severely ill patients. If you did not know, Brittany Maynard, a woman with terminal brain cancer recently traveled from California to Oregon to “Die with Dignity.” With all the troubles and procedures she had to go to in order to die, she called it inhumane because she argued that deciding your fate is a natural right. II. Some may argue that legalizing euthanasia will help put ill patients out of their misery.
a. For example, Britany Maynard, as stated above, had stage III terminal brain cancer and was in so much physical pain each day that she wanted to be euthanized so she could be put out of that pain. (Ethos)
b. In Belgium and Holland, euthanasia has been legal for 20 years and has helped thousands (Has Legalizing Voluntary Euthanasia in Belgium and Holland Created a Slippery Slope to Involuntary Euthanasia?)
III. Changing euthanasia laws could endanger more people than it could help, because it could open up gateways…
