The most common drug, Marijuana, is making a grand sweep across America and has been for a while. The question that many congressmen are asking themselves is whether or not the United States should make marijuana legal. This has been an on-going argument for the Capital and even each state and its representatives. Would the country be able to regulate each and every dispensary with all the sales? Making marijuana legal nationwide would bring an abundance of opportunities to the United States. With the vast amount of revenue it would bring in, a state could boost the schooling programs in areas that need it, improve security around the U.S.-Mexican border, as well as fund medical research to find a cure for a diseases. The opportunities that would open up and present themselves by the legalization of Marijuana make this an everlasting and controversial topic. The scientific name for marijuana is Cannabis Sativa(Ohio State University). “Scientists have identified 483 different chemical compounds in cannabis” (Unitedpatientsgroup), meaning that there are 483 body and mind altering compounds in the plant Cannabis. The most Common cannabinoid is tetrahydrocannabinol, also known as THC (Unitedpatientsgroup). This is the compound that smokers favor, for it gives them what they are looking for, the “high”.
