Recreational Marijuana “Why is marijuana against the law? It grows naturally upon our planet. Doesn’t the idea of making nature against the law seem to you a bit . . . unnatural?” ― Bill Hicks Marijuana has been a hot topic for many years. Science has come a long way in the discoveries of what marijuana can do. The use of marijuana has become popular and helpful for people with tumors, glaucoma and many other diseases. Marijuana should be legalized because it would bring in revenue to the government, it is less harmful than alcohol or tobacco, and it has many health benefits. People all around the United States already smoke marijuana, much of which is illegal. Medicinal marijuana has already passed in many states, so why not allow for recreational use? Legalizing recreational marijuana, would generate billions in tax revenue, When Colorado legalized recreational marijuana, CNN stated, “And the state took in $53 million in tax revenue as a result.” People find ways to get marijuana anyway, so it might as well be legalized for the government to collect taxes. Either way, people will find a way to obtain marijuana. Marijuana is already decriminalized in twenty states and legal for recreational use in two. Possession of marijuana in the State of Connecticut results in a fine only. Back in the1920s and early 1930s, alcohol was prohibited, and people look towards the black market to find some.
