“The amount of money and of legal energy being given to prosecute hundreds of thousands of Americans who are caught with a few ounces of marijuana in their jeans simply makes no sense - the kindest way to put it. A sterner way to put it is that it is an outrage, an imposition on basic civil liberties and on the reasonable expenditure of social energy” (William F Buckley Jr). Marijuana has been grown for more than 2,000 years ago. It contains over 400 different chemicals. There has been reported that 158.8 million of people use marijuana. People who consume marijuana start from when they are teenagers all the way through adulthood. Marijuana has been the second most frequent substance found in the human body. It has been used since ancient times as a medicinal herb. It used to be giving to people with certain condition as a medicine. Around 1970 it was classified as a drug due to high number of potential abuse and was no longer accepted as a medicine. Marijuana should be legalized because it will help the government, the economy and the people. Marijuana should become legal because it will increase the revenue. According to the Huffpost article, “Legalizing marijuana would generate $8.7 billion on federal and state tax revenue annually” (Fairchild 1). In other words, marijuana legalization will increase the revenue because of it’s market. Once marijuana is legalized the market size will increase. Also, marijuana would be taxed just like alcohol and tobacco. Not only taxers…
