Since 1929 marijuana has been illegal in the United States of America. Marijuana was and still is viewed as a terrible substance that will harm you, but that is not the case. Marijuana, also known as weed, is not as bad as people make it seems and if legalized actually has some benefits to it. Marijuana is much healthier for you than alcohol or tobacco yet they are legal and marijuana is not. If it was legal, almost one million people would not even be in jail today, saving the government a lot of money and the crime rate would go down because possession of marijuana or selling marijuana would no longer be considered a crime. Marijuana could be sold in stores and be taxed to make billions of dollars. This means there would be a surplus of jobs available across the country because there would be needs for people to work in factories, grow the product, and deliver the marijuana to the stores. Marijuana is not viewed as it should be in our society today. There is a picture published by Rigo Design Studio, of world class swimmer and 14 time Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps smoking marijuana. There is writing to the top of the picture in bold print saying that Mr. Phelps has 14 Olympic gold medals, 37 world records and 2 lungs that are clearly in great shape despite smoking marijuana. Towards the bottom portion of the picture in fine print it states the heavy marijuana smokers exhibit no obstruction of the lung’s small airway oppose to heavy tobacco smokers that do damage…
