Recent literature shows marijuana may cause: an increase in infectious disease, cancer, oral diseases, pulmonary infections, heart disorders, neurologic disorders, renal and urological dysfunction, nausea and vomiting, infertility, and nutritional concerns (Adam Gordon et al., 2013), but these correlations have not been proven. If marijuana is legalized, scientist and doctors can study the drug further to confirm or deny these potential symptoms. If marijuana truly is hazardous, legalization will provide grounds for education that users otherwise would not of received on the black market. It is also important to point out that some of these side effects can be negated through the oral ingestion of marijuana.

Potential Therapeutic Benefits of Marijuana
Marijuana has may have quite a few therapeutic benefits. In a recent study done by Charles and Sandra M Webb, one hundred Hawaiians that were prescribed medical marijuana were asked a series of questions about their experience with the drug. The results were encouraging: “Reported therapeutic benefits included relief from stress/anxiety (50% of respondents), relief of insomnia (45%), improved appetite (12%), decreased nausea (10%), increased focus/concentration (9%), and relief from depression (7%). Several patients wrote notes (see below) relating that cannabis helped them to decrease or discontinue medications for pain, anxiety, and insomnia.”(Charles and Sandra Webb, 2014) The study also mentioned that: “A majority (71%)…
