A plant created by Mother Nature: a plant, if inhaled, makes you crave food and relax: a plant- not created by man, has become illegal in “1911 by the first state to ban it, Massachusetts”, since it has entered the United States market in 1840 (Wanlund 875). Legalizing cannabis, also known as marijuana or weed, should be a must in all the states. The best thing the United States could do is legalize this drug; cannabis does more good than many would want to confess to the economy and the people who take it. The first use of cannabis was unknown, but believed to have started in China. Shen-Nung, known as the “Father of Chinese Medicine,” prescribed marijuana in 2800 B.C.E. for multiple treatments and was impressed on what it could do and “deemed it one of the Superior Elixirs of Immortality” (Holland 18). Chu-Ma, as people would call it in China back then, made its first impression in medicine, but soon after was used for mysterious purposes such as rituals. Hua Tuo, the first century surgeon, performed “painless surgeries by using anesthetics made from the cannabis resin” (Wanlund 874). In India they concluded the herb to “release us from anxiety” (Wanlund 874). In England the hemp found in the cannabis plant was used to create materials such as rope. While the Spaniards introduced the making of paper from the hemp, later on they created the “first hemp paper mill” (“The Many Uses of Cannabis”).
