Imagine living in Colorado and walking outside to the fresh smell of … Marijuana? Yes, marijuana. Colorado voters made history in November 2012, when they approved Amendment 64 by 55% of the vote. Amendment 64 meant that adults twenty-one or older would be allowed to privately use, home grow, and have a limited possession of marijuana. Amendment 64 also established regulations for tax distribution from the sales of marijuana; similar to the alcohol regulations that started in October 2013. There are also state regulations to hold permits to grow, process, and sale industrial marijuana products. (Amendment 64) Now that recreational marijuana is legal, users in Colorado have guidelines to follow and pros and cons to weigh whether or not they should continue the use of marijuana for themselves. Marijuana is a plant known as cannabis sativa. The main perception-altering chemical in Marijuana is delta-9-tetrahydro-cannabinol, commonly referred to as THC. Mostly from the female plants, the leaves and buds produce the resin which contains THC. Marijuana can be used by smoking or consuming it. (Drug Facts) There are joints, blunts, and bongs to smoke marijuana. Joints are small rolled cigarettes of marijuana and blunts are thicker rolled cigars of marijuana. Bongs are similar to pipes which are also used to smoke marijuana, however bongs use water to vapor more smoke for inhaling. Edibles and drinks are available as well for consumption.
