While recreational marijuana creates much needed profits and safety for the consumer, another aspect that must be looked at is the legalization of medical cannabis. Cannabis for medical treatment has been utilized since the Egyptians used it to relieve hemorrhoid pain. Scientists and physicians alike share the understanding the cannabis is one of the most effective pain relievers ever to be discovered. Proponents believe that by legalizing weed, sickly Americans will be given pain relief from their ailments.
Another argument of proponents is that cannabis is not as dangerous as other drugs like alcohol or tobacco, which carry deadly side effects. Currently, there is no evidence of a marijuana related death as of 2008 and health effects are minimal at best from recent scientific studies. Since marijuana acts as a sedative, users are mostly calm, unlike alcohol which tends to make people violent.
